Why are ergonomics important in education?

Ergonomists, physiotherapists and osteopaths now believe that good or bad postural habits are learned at a very early age. Good posture is key to maintaining good skeletal and muscular health throughout life. Many who suffer with recurring back problems in later life experienced the causes in their first 20 years.

We are committed to supplying furniture which incorporate the best Ergonomic and Anthropometric principles to safeguard the health of children in schools. In line with this commitment our suppliers commissioned a 3 year research project into Education Furniture design and the ergonomic requirements of children. The results of this research have put our range ahead of the field in the supply of Education Ergonomic Furniture.

Schools and colleges gain many advantages by choosing Ergonomic furniture; children/students learn good posture, suffer less muscle fatigue and back pain, are are able to sit comfortably for long periods which enables them to concentrate more. The results speak for themselves.

Research shows that children who adopt a correct posture work better for longer

The medical profession are constantly advising that children should be using appropriately sized, ergonomically designed furniture which offers good support and prevents undue pressure on muscles, joints and bones.

Our supplier's research programme also identified that when children are sitting comfortably, their attention span increases significantly therefore aiding the classroom environment and helping the children to concentrate on learning.

The above table highlights how sitting periods without movement lengthen as a child changes age group. Discomfort devolops due to body position and stress and is only alleviated by changing position, therefore using an ergonomically correct chair and desk combination significantly reduces restlessness which ensures maximum concentration of the pupil.
